Frequently Asked Questions

Purchasing & Authenticity

Are your knives truly handmade, or are they mass-produced?

KnivesLo exclusively features handmade or custom-crafted fixed blades. Our Collector’s Editions and special lines (such as the Juan Padillo series) are produced by individual master bladesmiths and artisans. We provide a Certificate of Authenticity with all high-value items, confirming their provenance and craftsmanship.

What kind of steel do you use for functional knives?

For our heavy-duty utility knives (such as our hunting and bushcraft fixed blades), we primarily use D2 tool steel because of its excellent edge retention and durability. For collector pieces, we often feature Damascus steel, high-carbon steel, or pattern-welded billets, clearly noted in the individual product descriptions.

Are the RE4 Jack Krauser and other replica knives functional?

Our screen-accurate replicas and cosplay props are made with high-quality steel, but the edges are typically blunted or given a non-functional edge for safety, display, and legality reasons. They are designed as durable gaming memorabilia and cosplay accessories, not as tactical cutting tools or weapons.

Maintenance & Care

How should I care for a high-carbon or Damascus steel knife?

Knives made with high-carbon or Damascus steel require careful maintenance to help prevent rust (a natural patina is normal). We recommend cleaning the blade immediately after use and applying a light coating of mineral oil or knife protectant before storage. For long-term storage, keep the knife outside of the leather sheath, as leather can hold moisture.

What is the best way to sharpen the D2 tool steel knives?

D2 tool steel is a hard steel that holds an edge well but requires a careful hand when sharpening. We recommend using quality diamond stones or ceramic rods. Avoid using an electric grinder, as excessive heat can damage the blade’s temper.

Shipping & Legal

Do you ship internationally?

We currently ship within the United States only. At this time, we do not offer international shipping. Customers are responsible for ensuring that our products are legal to purchase and receive in their state or locality. We are unable to provide legal advice regarding local laws.

What if my knife arrives damaged?

We package all knives securely, but if your blade arrives damaged or incorrect, please contact our support team as soon as possible (ideally within 48 hours of delivery) with photos of the item and the original packaging. We will review the issue and arrange a replacement or refund in line with our Return & Refund Policy.

For select pieces, particularly those from our Custom Knife collection, we may offer personalization options such as custom handle materials, alternative guard finishes, or personalized engraving. Please contact us before placing your order to confirm availability, pricing, and lead times.

How do I know which knife is right for me?
